HJ FAMOSO is owned by Loren and JoEllen Erickson of Durant, Iowa, and daughter Jill Mohr of Cherry Valley, Illinois. They have been breeding and showing Arabians, as a family, for 24 years, and purchased the beautiful stallion HJ FAMOSO as their foundation sire from his breeder,  Shelley Brinkert-Hjelm, Ma-Ro-Sh Arabians, in Hartley, Iowa.

JoEllen says, “HJ FAMOSO stole our hearts, exhibiting the beauty and disposition of his sire, MAGNUM PSYCHE, truly the Arabian sire of the 21st century siring the beautiful western pleasure and hunter offspring we admire today; and out of the exquisite Silver Maple mare POETRY SMF - Poetry being a FAME VF daughter out of the EL HILAL daughter ISAH.”

The Erickson’s trainers are Mike Neal and Jody Strand, both of whom are very enthusiastic about this stallion.  Mike, because he showed the dam POETRY SMF to multiple wins in her early show career and because he believes strongly in the bloodlines of HJ FAMOSO , buying multiple breedings to him at sanctioned auctions.  Jody Strand admires the willingness of HJ Famoso as an athlete and his quiet personality at home, as a performance horse, and as a breeding stallion. 

Mike Neal showed HJ FAMOSO to a 2007 US National Top Ten in halter and under Jody’s tutelage, Jill showed HJ FAMOSO to a 2009 US Top Ten in Western Pleasure AAO Maturity and 2009 Scottsdale Signature Stallion - Champion Western Pleasure Maturity ATR.

"Our breeding goal for themselves and their customers is to produce beautiful horses with Arabian-type, great dispositions, and athletic ability who can win in open and amateur halter and performance classes." In 2008 and 2009 HJ FAMOSO bred outstanding mares, including those by CA HERMOSO, AFIRE BEY V, FAME VF, as well as Jill’s winning half-Arabian western mare DATE WITH AN ANGEL .  The resulting foals were beautiful, Arabian-type foals, very reminiscent of Famoso’s sire, MAGNUM PSYCHE .  Some examples are:

• JJ LORENZO is out of CA TAPATIA who is by one of the most winning western sires of the breed, CA Hermoso.
• FIRST DATE is out of DATE WITH AN ANGEL , a half-Arabian winning western mare shown by Jill and dam of VICTORIOSA, two time US National Champion. Both foals are offered for sale and their photos appear below.

FIRST DATE is expected to be a super star western horse, like sister VICTORIOSA. BROADWAY BEY B , the mare Jody Strand used in training seminars with no bridle, foaled “ELEGANCE JJ” (photo below) , an exquisite filly; and “VINTAGE BOURBON ”, a half-Arabian colt out of Chuck and Diana West’s saddlebred mare.  These are just a few of the HJ FAMOSO babies. The Erickson’s believe HJ Famoso’s breeding reflects the policy of breeding "the best to the best".  They are very proud to stand him with Jody Strand.

HJ FAMOSO was a US National Top Ten Futurity colt in 2007 with MIKE NEAL.

In 2009 Famoso won US National Top Ten Western Pleasure AAO Maturity winner with JILL MOHR .

He has always done whatever we have asked, and is exceptionally willing to please. He is by the sire of the century, MAGNUM PSYCHE, out of the beautiful mare POETRY SMF. He is trained and standing with JODY STRAND.
